Supported living

Your own front door, with the support to make living independently work — day to day, at your pace.

Housing and care stay separate, so your tenancy does not depend on who provides your care.

  • Adults 18 and over
  • Your own tenancy
  • Overnight care available

What supported living includes

Support built around what someone wants to be able to do, not around a list of tasks. The measure of it working is that our hours go down over time.

  • Running a tenancy

Bills, post, repairs and the paperwork that piles up if nobody helps with it.

  • Cooking and shopping

Done together at first, then done independently — that is the point.

  • Medication routines

Building a routine someone can hold on their own, rather than managing it for them.

  • Getting out and about

Travel training and confidence with buses, appointments and the shops.

  • Work, college, purpose

Finding something to do on a Wednesday — volunteering, study or a job.

  • Personal care if needed

At the level someone actually needs it, and no more than that.

Is supported living the right service?

It usually is if you or the person you are asking about:

  • Is 18 or over and wants their own front door
  • Can live independently with the right support in place
  • Is living with a mental health condition, or another long-term condition that makes living alone harder
  • Is moving on from a family home, hospital or residential care
  • Wants support that reduces over time rather than settles in permanently

If someone needs more than a personal care service can safely provide, we will say so at the assessment rather than take the package.

Arranging support for someone moving to their own place?

Call us early. Supported living works far better when the support is planned before the move, not after it.

How supported living begins

  1. Free assessment

We meet the person, not just the referral. We ask what they want to be able to do, and what they want left alone.

  2. Your support plan

Written with the person, with goals that reduce our hours over time rather than protect them.

  3. Meet your team

A small, consistent team, so nobody is explaining themselves to a new face every week.

  4. Ongoing reviews

We review with the person, their circle and the funder. Support goes up or down as it should.

What you can expect

  • Support that builds skills rather than replacing them
  • A small, consistent team who know the person properly
  • Predictable times — consistency matters more than intensity
  • Early flags when something is shifting, rather than crisis management
  • Honest conversations with families and funders about what is working

Questions people ask

Is this a care home?

No. You hold your own tenancy and you are the tenant, not a resident. We can be asked to leave; your home is not affected.

Do you provide the housing?

We do both. We work with named housing providers where someone needs a place to live, and we also support people in housing they already have — including their own tenancy or a family home.

Can support be overnight?

Yes. As well as daytime and evening support we can provide overnight cover — a carer awake through the night, or sleeping in nearby and available if needed — so support can be arranged around the clock.

Who pays for it?

Support is usually funded through Adult Social Care following a needs assessment, sometimes as a personal budget or direct payment. Housing costs are separate and may be covered by Housing Benefit or Universal Credit. Thresholds and local policy vary, so confirm the detail with your local authority.

Do you support people with mental health conditions?

Yes — it is one of the specialisms on our CQC registration. We work to whatever crisis or relapse plan is in place, alongside community mental health teams.

What if the person does not want support?

That is common and usually about control rather than the task. We start with less, build trust, and involve the person in decisions rather than working around them.
